Pizzica Salentina is a traditional dance from Salento (southern Italy) and belongs to the great family of Tarantellas.

Ancient and rich is this dance's history and many theories were developed over time. According to the most common one, women who got bitten by the tarantula spider while working in the fields were then to dance to the rythm of the tamburine to heal from the venom.

As time passed by this ritual turned into a more festive and entertaining dance known as Pizzica Salentina.

Every summer at village fairs you'll find big circles of people dancing this beautiful dance to the restless rythm of the tamburine. You really can't help joining in!!
