IT. Lu rusciu de lu mare nasce dal desiderio di unire la prosa alle meravigliose musiche tradizionali salentine, brani passionali che raccontano d’amore e di sofferenza, di vita e di lavoro.
Prende vita così un racconto di fantasia che reinventa le circostanze della nascita dell’omonimo brano.
Ambientato a Santa Caterina di Nardò in Salento alla fine degli anni 50, è la storia di Amira, una ragazza con il sogno di fare la ballerina, di Mauro, un uomo che si trova ad affrontare la sfida più grande, ossia quella di essere padre, e di Nicola, un musicista che mangia la vita a morsi.
Questa è una terra dove il tarantismo, un fenomeno che si riteneva essere causato dal morso dei ragni e che colpiva principalmente le donne, è largamente diffuso.
Studi approfonditi hanno però dimostrato che il morso della tarantola non potesse essere il solo responsabile dei sintomi di malessere che portavano gli interessati a ballare instancabilmente per giorni. E' quindi interessante cercare le risposte altrove esplorarando le difficoltà sociali che le protagoniste del caso si trovavano ad affrontare, soffocate da figure maschili predominanti, da un’economia schiacciante e da una società che le incorona regine in cucina ma prigioniere nel resto del regno. Ecco l’esigenza di un personaggio ribelle ed anticonformista a cui, per citare le sue parole, “tutto questo non basta”.
I nostri protagonisti hanno fame di vita, non si accontentano e non hanno paura di combattere.
Ruolo fondamentale è quello del pubblico, chiamato a formare uno dei simboli più importanti della pizzica: la Ronda, il cerchio che unisce e non esclude. Al suo interno gli attori saranno i ballerini che racconteranno la vita dei personaggi a ritmo di tarantella.
Frutto di un lavoro di ricerca e di approfondimento delle tradizioni, “Lu Rusciu de lu Mare” è un racconto incalzante e sincero, in cui il confine tra realtà e ricordo è deliziosamente sottile ed il passato torna prepotentemente a rubare la scena.

ENG. Lu Rusciu de lu mare was born from the desire to combine prose with the wonderful traditional Salentine music: passionate songs that tell of love and suffering, life and work.
Thus comes to life a tale that reinvents the circumstances of the birth of the homonymous song.
Set in Santa Caterina di Nardò at the end of the 50s, it is the story of Amira, a girl who dreams of becoming a dancer at a time and place where hard work is the only way forward; Mauro, a man who faces the biggest challenge, namely to be a father; and Nicola, a musician who lives his life to the fullest.
This is a land where Tarantism, a phenomenon that was believed to be caused by the bite of spiders and that mainly affected women, is widespread.
In-depth studies have proven, though, that the tarantula bite could not be the sole responsible for the symptoms of sickness that would cause people to dance restlessly for days. It's therefore interesting to look for answers elsewhere, exploring the social difficulties that these people were facing, suffocated by predominant male figures, a stagnant economy and a society that would crown them queens in the kitchen but prisoners in the rest of the kingdom. Here comes the need for a rebellious and nonconformist character who strongly believes that "this is not enough".
Our protagonists are hungry for life, unafraid to fight and will not make do.
Essential is the role of the audience, called to form one of the most important symbols of pizzica: the Ronda, the circle that unites and does not exclude. Within, the actors will tell the characheters's lives dancing to the rythm of Tarantella.
Result of a long and deep research on the history and traditions of Southern Italy, "Lu Rusciu de lu Mare" is a pressing and sincere tale, where the boundary between reality and memory is deliciously subtle and the past powerfully returns to steal the show.
